Thank you for your support of the Shakespeare Grove drain outlet project in 2021!

The new drain outlet and viewing platform are really starting to take shape, with the following milestones reached in recent months:

  • Earlier this month the new viewing platform was delivered to site and installed. The platform was constructed off-site in three sections to enable delivery and installation.
  • The final section of the drain outlet is connected, and the drain has returned to normal operations. In the new year the team will complete the topping slab and remove the sheet piles which formed the cofferdam.
  • Drain restoration works at Acland Street and Marine Parade are nearing completion. Work has involved rehabilitating the drain by cleaning the interior, spraying the inside of the drain with concrete and installing reinforcement. The works are targeted to be completed early in the new year.

Works have finished for the year and will resume Monday 10 January.

In 2022 the project team will complete the removal of the remaining sheet piles, finalise the internal drain restoration works and finish installation of the platform furniture and services. On completion of the drain and platform works we will begin reinstating the area to a similar condition to before the project.

We look forward to enjoying the new viewing platform with you in 2022!
