Major works set to commence at St Kilda Beach
Since February, the project team has been establishing the site for the Shakespeare Grove Main Drain Outlet Renewal Project.
Here is an update of what has been happening on site, and some more information about major works commencing next week.
We have been busy establishing the site which includes:
- installing the construction zone on the beach
- changing some parking on Marine Parade
- putting in place pedestrian and cycling detours
- installing environmental curtains in the water around our work site.
The establishment works are almost complete, ready for major works to begin from 12 April.
Piling for cofferdam and drain diversion
In the week commencing 12 April, works will begin to install a cofferdam around the existing drain using sheet piles. Noise mitigation measures will be in place, however the piling activity is still expected to be noisy. These works are expected to take approximately five weeks.
A cofferdam is an enclosure built within a body of water to allow the enclosed area to be pumped out. This pumping creates a dry working environment so that the work can be carried out safely. An example is provided below.
Thank you for your patience
We are excited to be delivering this critical project, however there will be changes and disruption as works progress. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we undertake these works.
