Shakespeare Grove viewing platform now open!

Today marks an exciting day for the Shakespeare Grove Main Drain Outlet Renewal Project with the viewing platform now open to the community! This is a huge milestone for the project and we thank you for your ongoing support as we delivered these critical works.

What we have delivered

Together with 57 subcontractors and approximately 107,024 people hours, our team has:

  • Installed (and removed) 257 sheet piles to create a dry working area
  • Demolished the original drain
  • Established new foundations including 68 concrete piles for the new outlet
  • Constructed the new drain outlet with 53 culverts with a total of 180 cubic metre concrete for the base and top slabs
  • Lifted three platform sections weighing total of approximately 60 tonnes
  • Installed 118 metres handrails
  • Installed 80 metres of electric conduit to support lighting on the platform

Community day – Saturday 26 March

To celebrate and thank everyone for their support during the works, we are holding a community day this Saturday 26 March with project representatives in attendance and surprises to enjoy. We hope you can drop by!

  • When: Saturday 26 March
  • Time: 10am to midday
  • Location: Shakespeare Grove Viewing Platform, St Kilda (near Donovans Restaurant)

Reinstatement works

The project will continue reinstatement works in the area between Marine Parade and the shared user path until late March. Temporary fencing will remain installed until approximately mid to late May until the turf has established and is ready for public use.

In case you missed it...

We captured the installation of the viewing platform late last year which was a huge milestone for the project team. Watch the video to see how it was installed.

Creating a lasting community legacy

Once again we thank you for you continued support of the project. The completion of the project has ensured that the drain continues its vital role of reducing the risk of flooding to surrounding suburbs and the viewing platform creates a destination point for the community to enjoy.
