The transformational new sewer will connect the Maribyrnong River Main (MRM) sewer to the North Western Sewer in Maidstone, which transports wastewater to where it's treated at the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee. This will support Melbourne's growing population by providing increased capacity for future flows.

As part of the project, a new pipe bridge will be built over the Maribyrnong River, and a new shared path that connects with existing paths will also be created. These will enable continuous public access along the river, creating a key link in the western active transport corridor.

The project will future proof our sewerage system whilst ensuring local amenity, environment, heritage and community interests are protected and enhanced.

The two-year project started in March 2022 and will continue until 2024.
