We want to make sure everyone in our community can have their say and take part in decision making. To achieve this, we use Simple English across this website and try to only use technical terms when it is necessary. We also use visual content, such as icons, images and videos, to support written information.

Where appropriate, we also translate project information into languages other than English commonly spoken within a project area. When deciding whether to translate information, we make this decision based on community impact as well as the level of English fluency with in that community.

You can request translation support at any time by phoning the Telephone Interpreting Service (TIS) National Contact Centre on 131 450.

Translation tool

Let's Talk | Melbourne Water is currently trialling an automated translation tool. The tool translates the website's content using software powered by Google Translate and Localize. Only selected pages on the website are being translated while we trial the tool.

If you need website content translated, please continue contact the TIS National Contact Centre.

Language selection

Languages included in the translation tool have been prioritised using data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Census measures were combined to identify the most common languages spoken in the Melbourne Water operating area by people who were not proficient in English.

We may add additional languages in the future - if you have a suggestion please provide your feedback using the form below.

Accuracy

Reasonable efforts have been made to provide an accurate translation, however, no automated translation is perfect nor is it intended to replace human translators. Part of our trial is to manually review the translations using NAATI-certified translators.

No warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, is made as to the accuracy, reliability, or correctness of any translations made from English into any other language. Any discrepancies or differences created in the translation are not binding and have no legal effect for compliance or enforcement purposes.

If any questions arise related to the accuracy of the information contained in the translated website, please refer to the English version of the website which is the official version.

How to access the translation tool

You can access the translation tool by clicking the button on the top right hand side of the menu. If this button is greyed out it means that the translation tool is not available on this section of the website.

Third-party content (such as embedded YouTube videos) cannot be translated due to the limitations of the translation software. Community contributions are not translated to ensure individual's opinions are not misinterpreted.
